Luoyang works best when you plan around one major outdoor visit and one museum visit, then leave room to adjust if official entry rules change. The three places with clear official visitor information are Longmen Grottoes, Luoyang Museum, and the Luoyang Museum of Ancient Tombs.

Start with Longmen Grottoes

Longmen Grottoes is at No. 13 Longmen Middle Street, Luolong District. The published full-price admission is ¥90. Daytime opening hours are listed as 08:00–18:00 from March 1 to October 31, and 08:00–17:00 from November 1 to February 28 or 29.

It is about 4 km from Luoyang Longmen high-speed rail station. The official visitor information gives two practical arrival options: a drive of roughly 10 minutes, or Bus 71, which is listed at about 42 minutes. Treat those as planning estimates, not a promise of current traffic or bus conditions.

Choose a museum visit that fits your day

Luoyang Museum is on Nie Tai Road in Luolong District. Admission is free from Tuesday through Sunday. It closes on Mondays, except during the Peony Culture Festival and statutory holidays. Published opening hours are 09:00–19:00, with last entry at 18:30.

The Luoyang Museum of Ancient Tombs is at 6 Jichang Road in Laocheng District. Its permanent exhibition is free, but this does not mean you can simply arrive without preparation. The museum requires a real-name reservation through its official website or official WeChat account. Visitors who reserve may have their passports checked on arrival.

Build a low-stress plan

A sensible structure is to give Longmen Grottoes the earlier part of the day, then select one museum as your second stop. This is not a fixed itinerary: it is a way to avoid relying on a late arrival at a venue with a last-entry cutoff.

For Luoyang Museum, the important published cutoff is 18:30. For the Museum of Ancient Tombs, the listed last entry is 16:30 in both seasonal schedules. If the tomb museum is your priority, complete its reservation before setting out and carry the passport used for the reservation.

Seasonal timing to check

The Museum of Ancient Tombs publishes 09:00–17:00 from May 1 to October 31, with last entry at 16:30. From November 1 to April 30, it publishes 09:00–16:30, again with last entry at 16:30. It is closed on Mondays except statutory holidays.

Longmen Grottoes also has different published daytime closing times by season. The distinction matters if you are visiting in the late afternoon: the summer-season listing ends at 18:00, while the winter-season listing ends at 17:00.
