Laoshan is not one compact park with a single gate. It is a large mountain area east of central Qingdao, divided into separate sightseeing zones with different entrances, transport connections and walking routes. For a first visit, choose one zone rather than trying to cross the whole mountain in a day.

Jufeng is the choice for a demanding mountain hike and high viewpoints. Taiqing combines coastal scenery with Taoist heritage. Yangkou and Huayan offer granite formations, sea views and a shorter outing. Jiushui focuses on wooded valleys, pools and streams. The official scenic-area guides treat these as distinct routes, so confirm the zone before buying a ticket or boarding the metro.

Which Laoshan route should you choose?

Jufeng, also called Laoding, reaches 1,132.7 metres. From the visitor center, the sightseeing bus goes to Tiandi Chunhe Square. You can then walk uphill or take the separately charged cableway before continuing toward Natural Stele, the “First Famous Mountain on the Sea” viewpoint, Xun Gate and Lingqi Peak. The official guide estimates about three to four hours for the shorter recommended circuit and longer for the full Bagua Gate loop. Allow additional time for the bus transfer and queues.

Taiqing suits travelers more interested in landscape and religious architecture than a summit challenge. The route pairs the mountain’s southern coastal setting with Taiqing Palace. The palace is a separately managed, separately charged religious site, so do not assume that every internal attraction is included in the scenic-area ticket.

Yangkou and Huayan begin on the northeastern side of Laoshan. Official route information highlights Taiping Palace, Lion Peak, Shouzi Peak and Mitian Cave around Yangkou, with Huayan reached through the east-side sightseeing-bus system. This route requires more transport planning from central Qingdao than Jufeng or Taiqing.

Jiushui is the northern valley route. Its official itinerary follows wooden paths and a chain of pools toward Chaoyin Waterfall, with an optional continuation toward Weizhu Temple. Water levels and access conditions depend on recent weather, so check the latest notice rather than planning around a guaranteed waterfall view.

Laoshan ticket prices in 2026

The scenic area publishes seasonal prices. The standard tariff separates the admission component from the compulsory or route-specific sightseeing-bus component. Cableways, Taiqing Palace and other independently operated activities cost extra.

Peak-season pricing applies from April 1 through December 31, while off-season pricing applies from January 1 through March 31. The southern ticket covers the published southern sightseeing areas, including Jufeng, Taiqing, Yangkou and Huayan, but transport between distant entrances is not a simple hop-on circuit. Treat the ticket’s validity as permission to enter, not as proof that every zone fits into one itinerary.

Prices and temporary promotions can change. Check the official booking screen before payment, especially if you qualify for a student, senior, child or disability concession. Bring the original passport or other document used for the reservation because eligibility may be checked at the entrance.

How do you reach Laoshan from Qingdao?

Public transport is usually easier than driving because the entrances are spread out and scenic roads are controlled.

• For Jufeng or Taiqing, take Qingdao Metro Line 4 to Dahedong, use Exit A and walk into Dahedong Visitor Service Center. Continue on the sightseeing bus for your selected route.
• For Jiushui, take the Blue Valley Express, formerly Line 11, to Beijiushui. Use Exit B for the Jiushui transfer facilities and continue by sightseeing bus.
• For Yangkou or Huayan, take the Blue Valley Express to Puli, use Exit A, then transfer to bus 620 or 926 and get off at Yangkou.

Do not enter only “Laoshan” in a taxi or map app. Save the exact visitor center for the zone printed on your ticket.

Driving does not remove the need for internal transport. The road between Yangkou and Yakou is narrow and managed as a tourism road. Since March 25, 2026, eligible cars with no more than seven seats have needed a free, limited reservation to use that section. Without one, drivers must park near Yangkou and continue by public transport or a scenic-area bus. Holiday traffic controls may be stricter.

When is the best time to visit?

Spring and autumn offer comfortable conditions for longer walks, while July and August have the longest published opening hours. Jiushui’s official autumn guidance identifies early to mid-November as a good period for colored foliage, although the timing changes with the weather.

Summer rain can improve stream scenery, but it can also close trails or the entire scenic area. On July 7, 2026, Laoshan temporarily closed all sightseeing zones following warnings for thunderstorms, strong wind and heavy rain. Check the official Weibo or WeChat notice on the morning of your visit, even if you already hold a ticket.

For Jufeng, take water, sun protection and shoes with dependable grip. Winter visitors should expect wind and possible ice and choose slip-resistant footwear when conditions require it.

A practical one-day plan

For a first trip focused on hiking, reserve Jufeng and arrive at Dahedong near opening time. Ride the sightseeing bus to Tiandi Chunhe Square, choose the cableway or walking ascent, then follow the shorter route through Natural Stele and the main viewpoint toward Lingqi Peak. Turn back early enough to catch the final transport downhill.

For a less strenuous day, reserve Taiqing instead. Use the same Line 4 connection to Dahedong, take the Taiqing sightseeing bus and spend your time along the coastal and temple route. Confirm the separate Taiqing Palace charge before entering.

Trying to combine Jufeng, Taiqing and Yangkou in one day creates more transfers than sightseeing. If you have two days, pair Jufeng with Taiqing on the first day and visit Yangkou or Jiushui on the second, using the multi-day validity of the relevant ticket where applicable.
